The MoH made the move in response to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Thailand.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Vietnam has recorded 148 cases of COVID-19 in 27 provinces and cities, but no deaths have been recorded.
Hospitals were asked to prepare isolation areas, medical equipment, and supplies for diagnosis, treatment, and infection control.
They must also ensure hygiene in and around their facilities.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2025, the impact of COVID-19 on people’s life may be less than in previous years, but it is continuing to spread around the world and poses significant risks to public health.
Dr. Angela Pratt, the WHO's representative in Vietnam, said, “All viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, mutate and evolve over time. Most of these changes have little or no effect on the characteristics of the virus. But sometimes, mutations can significantly impact factors such as the virus’s ability to spread, the severity of illness, and the effectiveness of vaccines, treatments, testing, or other public health measures.”
