The Vietnam Administration of Disease Prevention and Sanofi-Aventis Vietnam Co., Ltd. signed an MoU on May 27 to cooperatively strengthen Vietnam’s healthcare capacity and expand public education on disease prevention, with a focus on nationwide life-course immunisation drives.

The MoU is effective from the date of signing and will be implemented for three years, from 2025 to 2027. Key cooperation contents include reviewing, evaluating, and proposing policy solutions related to vaccination activities and vaccine utilisation in Vietnam; developing guidelines and recommendations from the Ministry of Health (MoH) on vaccination; communicating and educating to raise awareness about essential preventive vaccines and new generation vaccines, thereby offering measures to prevent infectious diseases for different age groups.

The Vietnam Administration of Disease Prevention, under the MoH, plays the leading role, responsible for professional aspects; orienting and controlling communication content and providing information to press agencies; monitoring and evaluating the implementation of cooperation activities.

Meanwhile, Sanofi is responsible for seeking, proposing, and connecting with suitable domestic and international partners, suppliers, and experts for cooperation activities; providing financial support to implement the scheme according to the established plan, in compliance with Vietnamese law.

The signing serves as a basis for implementing activities to support the review, evaluation, and proposal of policy solutions concerning vaccination activities and vaccine utilisation in general, and the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in Vietnam in particular.

The EPI was implemented nationwide 40 years ago in 1985. Since then, Vietnam has achieved many impressive accomplishments, and immunisation is considered a bright spot in disease prevention.

The rate of full vaccination in children aged under one year has consistently remained high, above 95 per cent. As a result, polio was eradicated in 2000, neonatal tetanus was eliminated in 2005, and the incidence and mortality rates of measles, whooping cough, and diphtheria have decreased by tens to hundreds of times.

According to the roadmap approved by the government in Resolution No.104/NQ-CP in 2022, new vaccines will continue to be introduced into the EPI, which will actively contribute to improving public health and preventing epidemics.

As one of the top vaccine manufacturers globally, Sanofi strives to develop preventive solutions for infectious diseases, including vaccines against diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b, polio, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis A and B, meningococcal disease, influenza, and more.

Each year, Sanofi provides over one billion vaccine doses to users worldwide, and protects 3-4 million Vietnamese people with advanced preventive solutions.
